Support Application Engineer / Application Specialist

The Electric Grid is undergoing significant investment to meet the increasing demand for reliable and safe electricity. Advanced Power Technologies plays an important role fulfilling the need for advanced monitoring to keep the Grid safe and reliable.

We are seeking a motivated and technically-minded Support Application Engineer / Application Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will serve as a key point of contact for our existing customers, providing hands-on technical support, managing product configurations, and ensuring a smooth experience throughout the return and warranty process. You will also collaborate closely with our outside sales team to help drive customer satisfaction and business success.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Customer Support

• Serve as the first technical resource for existing customers, responding to inquiries related to product application, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues in a timely and professional manner, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
• Maintain clear and thorough documentation of customer interactions and resolutions.

Product Configuration & Settings

• Review customer-supplied information, drawings, and specifications to complete accurate product settings and configurations.
• Ensure all configurations meet customer requirements.
• Coordinate with internal engineering and operations teams as needed to validate settings.

RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) Management

• Manage the end-to-end RMA process, including intake, evaluation, coordination with internal teams, and communication with customers.
• Track RMA cases through to resolution and identify recurring issues to support continuous improvement efforts.
• Ensure RMA timelines and commitments are met consistently.

Sales Team Support

• Provide technical assistance to the outside sales team, including product selection guidance, application support, and customer-facing technical documentation.
• Participate in pre-sales and post-sales activities as needed to support new and existing accounts.
• Help develop or review technical materials such as application notes, FAQs, and product guides.

Qualifications

Required

• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field — or equivalent hands-on work experience.
• Solid understanding of electrical systems and power technologies.
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Customer-focused mindset with a proactive, problem-solving approach.

Analog Electronics Design Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Analog Electronics Design Engineer to join our close-knit on-site multi-disciplinary team of Electronics and Software Design Engineers. The ideal candidate will be responsible for producing the designs of various analog and mixed signal systems, ensuring their performance robustness to specifications, with emphasis on reliability and manufacturability. This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a small established engineering firm with internal design and manufacturing arms (including in-house PCBA) serving clients in Electrical Power Utility Industry. The position requires a strong foundation in analog domain of electrical engineering, proficiency with SPICE simulation and EDA software, as well as experience validating and debugging the designs using lab measurement equipment.

Duties

• Design, simulate, and verify high-performance analog and mixed-signal circuits for applications such as sensor interfaces, signal conditioning, A/D D/A, power supplies and power management, etc.
• Develop schematics and layouts using EDA tools (i.e. Altium Designer) as well as facilitate the transition of existing designs from legacy CircuitMaker/TraxMaker to newer EDA tools.
• Specify components and perform simulations, noise analysis, and corner-case verification to ensure robust performance of the designs across all operating conditions.
• Optimize the designs for performance robustness, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Support design bring-up, characterization, and debugging using data loggers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and other precision lab measurement tools.
• Work closely with systems engineer to define analog specifications and ensure seamless integration into larger systems.
• Facilitate conformance testing to IEEE and IEC standards for EMC such as IEEE C37.90 and IEC 61000-4 (SWC/EFT/EMI/ESD compatibility).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in analog or mixed-signal designs.
• Proficiency with SPICE-based simulation tools and EDA design environments.
• Strong understanding of analog fundamentals – diodes, transistors/FETs, op-Amps, filters, ADCs/DACs, PLLs, and low noise design and PCB layout techniques.
• Experience with lab equipment for circuit validation and debugging.
• A problem-solving mindset, attention to detail, ability to work independently with minimal oversight, and a passion for engineering.
• Strong project management and communication skills including project scheduling and coordination across multidisciplinary teams.

Regional Application and Sales Engineer

Advanced Power Technologies is seeking both Senior and Junior level Application Engineers to be based West of the Mississippi River where you would be able to fly conveniently West to the Pacific Coast and the States along the continental divide. Senior applicants should have experience with substation apparatus or protection and control at an Electric Utility, a Service Provider to Electric Utilities or as an Application Engineer at a Manufacturer substation apparatus, protection, metering or communications. Junior Application Engineering candidates should be a graduate of a Power Engineering program.

Hardware Engineers

Advanced Power Technologies is seeking Senior, mid-level, and Junior Electronic Engineers for positions based at our Randolph, NJ headquarters. Successful candidates will be involved in analog including signal processing from transducers and power supply design and 8, 16, and 32-bit microcontroller hardware design. Senior and mid-level candidates should have a BSEE or the equivalent experience designing complex systems. Junior candidates are required to have a thorough understanding of the theory so they can one day be mid-level or Senior Engineers. Most importantly, all candidates must be detail oriented.

Embedded Processor Firmware Engineers

Advanced Power Technologies is seeking from Principle to Junior level Firmware Engineers to develop the firmware code for our products running on 8, 16 and 32-bit microcontrollers for measurement, control, and communications. Our applications are mission critical and hence a thorough validation is part of our development process. Experience with I2C and SPI Bus communications is essential. Junior level candidates must have a degree in Computer Engineering. Higher level candidates must have a proven track record of developing complex C code for microcontrollers.
